Still Life

Doug Esler (September 2017)

Still life still life
no breeze to stir the
morning air
no rustling of the stately
trees
still life still life
no ripples on the patient
lake
no sound of birds upon
the wing
still life still life
harbours first peoples’
ancient stories
locked away in a timeless
vault
still life still life
the writer waits with
eager pen
to scribe all of the mystic
tales
still life still life
guarding nature’s perfect
beauty
holding nature in it’s
hand
still life still life
a model for the artist’s
eye
a canvas for the waiting
brush
still life still life
the painter poised in
anticipation
will draw and daub and
mark this place
still life still life.
